Thomas Ruthven is an associate advisor for Sperry Van Ness specializing in the acquisition and disposition of self storage properties in Western New York. He joins Sperry Van Ness led by National Director of Self Storage, Nicholas Malagisi. With 43 years of investment real estate experience, Ruthven assists investors in all aspects of the transaction including client representation, deal negotiation and financial analysis. Ruthven has assisted in the sale of seven self storage properties valued at $6.1 million.

Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, Ruthven was the chief executive officer of Excellence ‘n’ Mortgages, a full-service commercial mortgage brokerage firm. While there, Ruthven represented over 76 different secondary market investors that included insurance companies, banks and other mortgage lenders. He placed loans on properties valued from $250,000 to $50 million both domestically and internationally.

Previously, he was the chief executive officer of Power Funding Group, a full-service mortgage banking company where he managed the origination, sale and servicing of residential and commercial mortgage loans.

Ruthven earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Norwich University in Northfield, VT.
